Internet auction assists in recovery of stolen artifact

Manion’s International Auction House returns collectible cap to rightful owner

Kansas City, Kansas - (March 14, 2007) – Frank Korun walked into his antiques and collectibles shop, Sugarloaf Trading Post in Frederick, Maryland, and realized he had been robbed.

“It wasn’t something I expected,” said Korun. “I guess no type of business is immune to theft.”

A very collectible WWII German cap, along with other historic collectibles, was stolen from Korun’s shop. He immediately called the police and filed a report. Later, while visiting Manion’s International Auction House website - known worldwide for militaria and historic collectibles – he saw something he recognized.

“I was looking at the website for another reason and saw a German WWII Luftwaffe field cap and I new it was mine,” said Korun. “I e-mailed sent an e-mail to Manion’s and within 10 minutes I had a response.”

Manion’s CEO Jody Tucker responded personally to Korun’s request.

“We take this type of thing very seriously,” said Tucker. “I feel it is our responsibility to the collecting community to assist in anyway we can in the prosecution of those responsible for collectibles theft.”

Korun appreciated the effort on Manion’s behalf.

“As soon as Jody realized there could be a possibility it was stolen, he took it off the auction and said it wasn’t going anywhere,” said Korun. “I really appreciate it – and the police did too.”

Although the cap has been returned, authorities have yet to recover a Smith Carbine, with a serial number of 65, for which he is offering a reward of $500. If you have any information, please contact Korun at 301.874.2993.
