City, Kansas (March 14, 2007) – A uniform belonging to 1st Lt.
Nelson Ephraim Prentice of Payne, Ohio, an officer in Company M, 1st Regiment,
Ohio Volunteer Heavy Artillery, has made its way to Manion’s International
Auction House in Kansas City, Kansas. The historic garment was consigned to the
auction by the Lieutenant’s great-great grandson.
“This kind of item is a dream of a find for a serious historian or collector,” said Manion’s representative John Conway. “The uniform itself is rare enough, but when you add the documentation, and all of the other items that come with this collection, it’s absolutely astounding. We are honored the Prentice family chose Manion’s to broker the sale.”
Not only does the collection include the artillery Lieutenant’s Union frockcoat and trousers, but features his Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) suit coat and vest, his personalized GAR membership lapel badge, and his civilian frockcoat. The documentation includes a copy of a 10 page unit history, as written by Lt. Prentice, mentioning by name all other officers in the company, as well as copies of Prentice family history and photos.
“These items are in remarkable condition as well,” said
The items will be sold to the highest bidder with the two-week auction that began March 6th and will end March 25th. A detailed description, and photos of the items, can be found at www.manions.com.
