Kansas City, Kansas (February 13, 2008) – Oh, I have
slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered
wings…
This, the first line of the poem High Flight by John Gillespie Magee Jr. is well known to aviation enthusiasts – many of who are avid collectors of memorabilia related to man’s endeavor to fly.
“We have recently acquired several advanced aviation collections,” said John Conway, noted aviation author, historian, and representative of Manion’s International Auction House, Inc. located in Kansas City, Kan. “In addition, we are currently working on the acquisition of other notable groupings.”
In the realm of militaria collecting, Aviation items are among the most desirable. Throughout aviation history, pilots have been widely admired for their skill and mementos of their pursuit have become cherished keepsakes.
“From those who flew WWI bi-planes and the heavy bombers of WWII, to Vietnam helicopter crews and the Top-Guns of today – aviation collections are some of the most interesting,” said Conway. “Wings, medals, models, photos, autographs, paperwork, helmets, uniforms, actual aircraft and pieces of aircraft – the list goes on and on, and it doesn’t look like we’re going to have a shortage of it any time soon.”
Aviation items from recently acquired collections are currently up for bid on the Internet auction website www.manions.com, with new items being listed daily. Auctions close each and every day at 8:30 p.m. CST, membership is free, and consignment is always welcome.
