Description: Good- vintage crisply penned in black ink letter, untranslated from the German, written in 1849 by German General Field Marshall Edwin Freiherr von Manteuffel [1809-1885], famous for his military victories in the Franco-Prussian War [commanded I Corps], and winner of both the Pour le Merite and the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross. Unfolded, it measures 16 1/2" x 13 1/2", multi-folded and originally sealed in red wax [parts of it remain]. When the letter was opened, it resulted in a 3 1/2" x 1" [at the widest] paper loss, bit NO writing is affected. Manteuffel has signed his last name only. Comes with a COA from R.R. Auction: America`s Autograph Auction in Amherst, New Hampshire, auctioned by them in February of 2010, hand-signed by the CEO of RR Auction and by the Lead Authenticator. Also included is a computer generated image of the Field Marshall.
