HOLLIFIELD TARGET PRACTICE ROD INDICATOR OR "DOTTER", COMPLETE AND PARTIAL KITS
Click above image for full size photos below.
WWI era device for instruction in proper aiming, hold, and trigger pull. Basic components include sliding rod with pointed tip inside a bore diameter brass tube. This is placed into the barrel of the service rifle (US M1903). Five dummy cartridges with plungers are placed in the magazine. Special paper targets are placed in the metal slide inside the wooden case. Target consists of two bull`s eyes, one for aiming and one for registering the shot. Shooter aims at the upper target. When he pulls the trigger, the firing pin will drive the plunger into the rod which will emerge from the muzzle and strike the lower target, giving a representation of how well the shooter would have performed at 100 or 200 yards on an actual range. Hollifield system could be used in confined spaces as it produced no noise, recoil or projectile. Rifle did not have to be cleaned. Consignor has sent two wooden boxes, each has instructions on paper label inside lid. There is also a separate manual with illustrated instructions and testimonials from military users in the US and Canada. In all you will receive three barrel rods, seven dummy cartridges, one charger clip, four booklets of 100 and 200 yard simulated targets, aim fixing target slip and marking disks, two wooden chests with adjustable target holders, one original manual. A very rare accessory. How many people have ever heard of this device? The principle is sound, and there is no reason a Springfield `03 user couldn`t enjoy a little indoor practice on a rainy day. The manual shows soldiers on a troop ship getting in some sight and trigger pull drill out on the deck. A great exhibit for a WWI Living History event. First one of these we`ve ever had and likely not to see more. If you are a serious WWI or M1903 collector, this is an essential addition to your collection. Condition: 8 Weight: 4.90 lbs
