BOX FOR HOLLIFIELD TARGET PRACTICE ROD "DOTTER" FOR SERVICE AUTOMATIC PISTOL
Click above image for full size photos below.
Hinged wooden box with holder for small paper bullseye target. Box has two holes for mounting nails or screws. According to the instruction label, the user would place the box on a wall, load a rod with a pointed tip into his pistol and aim at the target from a few inches away. When the trigger was pulled the firing pin would apparently drive the rod toward the target, marking or "dotting" it to show the shooter how steady his aim and trigger control were. The rod is no longer present, but the instructions are sufficiently clear that you could probably make one. Great display accessory for early Colt Government Model. Hollifield made a similar device for the M1903 Springfield Rifle. A shooter could learn correct handling before moving on to costly ranges and ammunition. Condition: 8 Weight: 0.45 lbs
