LORD ABERDEEN, 7TH EARL (1847-1934), LETTER AND SIGNATURE.
Click above image for full size photos below.
John Campbell Hamilton-Gordon (1847-1934), 7th Earl of Aberdeen, was a Scottish Liberal politician and colonial governor. Lord Aberdeen`s greatest claim to fame was as the beloved Governor General of Canada from 1893 to 1898, a period of great political transition for Canada, which the Governor handled with distinction. Aberdeen returned to the United Kingdom after his posting in Canada, and was latter dubbed (1916) the 1st Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair. The subject for your consideration is part of a letter written by Lord Aberdeen, which concludes with his Signature and a postscript. It is unclear if it pre-dates or post-dates his posting to Canada, but it is fairly clear that he was in the UK at the time of this writing as he refers a coming trip to the "North of England". A brownish toned ink is laid out on a heavy parchment-like paper. One side bears of faint water-mark that shows winged angel. The letter is matted and is positioned just below a photographed image of Lord Aberdeen. This item just needs a frame to make it complete. Bargain reserve price! Condition: 8
