JAPANESE WW2 BORDER INCIDENT WAR MEDAL W/RIBBON + ARMY PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
The date this medal was instituted is not known, but is believed to have been following the restoration of peace following the 1939 war. Medal is 30mm in diameter, made of yellow-bronze, w/a swivel grip, suspender and bar w/four characters, "war medal," in the style of Japanese war medals. The obverse has the orchid crest near the top, part of a terrestreial globe at the bottom, and in the center a dove w/spread wings, flanked by conventional clouds, all on a field of rays. The reverse has across the center, right to left, four seal characters, "national border incident" w/cloud designs above and below, and a wide ring around the edge. Displays some finish wear. The 37mm wide watered ribbon is golden-yellow w/9.5mm dark blue outer edge stripes w/uniform hook to back. The medal comes with an original period B/W photo picturing an Army Supereior Private in combat uniform, leaning on his sword. Removed from album. Rare. Condition: 8
