JAPANESE CASED ORDER OF THE SACRED TREASURE, 3RD CLASS, W/RARE NECK RIBBON & GENERAL PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
The order of the Sacred Treasure, founded by Imperial Edict No. 1 of January 4, 1888, is the lowest ranking order and is both civil & military, and is bestowed on persons who have rendered distinguished service. This 55mm gold-plated order`s center polished white copper Yata Mirror is affixed in center [only traces of the dark blue enameled ground remains] w/in a gilt beaded inner & double-raised outer ring, encircled by a super-imposed attached necklace of red paste jewels connected by red lines, on a cross of four sets of five white enameled rays. The plain reverse has the usual four characters "order of merit decoration" arranged in a square in the center, a small rivet head on each of the four arms, with a mint mark ["L"] on the lower edge. It has a gold-plated suspension loop in place [bit bent, plating worn]. The RARE 15mm wide watered pale green cravat [w/gilt-finished buckle & clasp and adjustment buckle] has a 3mm yellow stripe 1mm from each edge, and is folded up into the case [this rare narrow ribbon is for a soldier]. Many of the red jewels display dings or chips. The black lacquered hinged wooden case has gilt characters on the lid and has a dull silver shield-shaped clasp to front. The lid has a padded violet satin lining and tiered shape-molded violet velveteen display area. Medal`s plating is worn some. This lot comes w/an original B/W photo of Army Lt. General Muraoka still attached to stiff black backing board, and the General`s name is written in red ink at top of photo. RARE! Condition: 7
