CASED CHINA INCIDENT WAR MEDAL W/RIBBON + RED CROSS MEMBERSHIP MEDAL W/RIBBON + PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
Nice lot of two Japanese medals plus photo, including: 1) The China Incident War Medal was created by Imperial Edict of July 27, 1939, amended by Edict of 1944 and abolished by Governnment Ordinance in 1946, and given to soldiers departing for China until the Summer of 1945, and is very common. Medal is 30m bronze w/a swivel grip and has the same suspender and bar of the previous war medal. The obverse shows the "yata-no-karusu" on crossed Army & Navy flags, w/rays of light behind, and the chrysanthemum crest above. The reverse has a design of mountains, clouds and waves in the Chinese classical style, representing northern China, central China and the Yellow Sea. The inscription is "China Incident." The ribbon is 37mm wide watered silk of 3mm blue, 3mm light blue, 7.5mm tan, 3.5mm dark pink, 2mm bright red, then reverse colors with uniform hook to back. Comes in the dark brown, silver titled pressboard case that has a dark blue velveteen form-fitted display area, and the original titled tissue medal was wrapped in; 2) nice example of the Red Cross Membership Medal, established on June 21, 1888, and awarded to those contributing 84 cents per year. It is of silver [exhibiting even bluish patina], 30mm in diameter, the obverse decorated w/the pawlonia, bamboo, the "ho-o" and Geneva Cross; the reverse has the characters "Meiji 21st year, Merit Decoration, Japanese Red Cross Society." The reverse of the grip has a phonetic character to it, silver ring attaches to 37mm watered silk red ribbon having two 2mm pale blue stripes near each edge, w/uniform hook to rear. It looks as of the Life Membership rosette was removed from ribbon. Housed in the titled purple pressboard case w/purple satin display area. The hinge paper has separated; and 3) period B/W photo of a Japanese Army Superior Private in uniform, wearing the early style collar flashes. Condition: 7
