Hanna Reitsch (29 March 1912 – 24 August 1979) was a famous German test pilot. Several of her later international gliding records are still standing in 2008. Reitsch was born in Hirschberg, Silesia. The daughter of an ophthalmologist, she studied to become a medical doctor and in 1932 began her aviation career. She was the first and only woman to win the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class + the Luftwaffe Golden Clasp with diamonds. 1st day cover in honor of Eisenhower and dated 1969 with Hanna Reitsch signature.
