CASED 2600TH NATIONAL ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL W/RIBBON & TITLED TISSUE + PHOTO

The 2600th National Anniversary Commemorative Medal was created by Imperial Edict of July 27, 1940, and was awarded to those connected w/official duties and important affairs of the anniversary. It was freely awarded and very common, but usually on faded ribbon. The medal is 30mm, of aluminum-bronze alloy, w/on the obverse the chrysanthemum crest and the Sacred Double Bridge at the entrance to the Inner Grounds of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. In the background is the Ancestral Shrine, the Imperial Sanctuary and the Imperial Palace. The reverse has the characters meaning "2600th National Anniversary Commemorative Medal" down the center and "Showa 15th year" below. The 37mm watered silk ribbon [slightly faded] is light violet w/8 1mm red lines 2.5mm apart in the center, and has the uniform hook to rear. Comes in a purple pressboard box w/silver characters on the lid. Display area for medal is yellow form-fitted felt, and also contains the original titled tissue wrapping. Box lid shows some scuffing to purple surface. Comes with original B/W photo of three Japanese Private 1st Class soldiers in uniform, with writing to rear and was removed from album. Condition: 8
