Nice lot of Japanese items, to include: 1) the Order of the Rising Sun, Japan`s first national decoration, was established by the Council of State Decree of April 10, 1875, and was used as a general order of merit, widely awarded to Japanese and foreigners. This 8th Class decoration of the White Pawlonia Leaves is 31mm x 33mm, made entirely of polished silver, and displays much bluish patina. The suspension design has the Pawlonia crest with 3, 5, and 3 flowers, and the reverse has the usual four characters engraved, leaves displaying nice detail. The watered 37mm ribbon is white w/6mm red edges and has uniform hook on reverse. Comes in the original black laquered presentation hinged case w/gilt lettering on the lid that has silver shield-shaped clasp to front. Inside has the purple padded satin lid lining and purple form-fitted velveteen display area; 2) the Red Cross Membership Medal, in silver [displaying dis-proportionate blue, gold and rainbow patina], has phonetic character to rear of grip, proper watereed ribbon with uniform hook in place; and 3) original B/W photo, removed from album, of Naval sailor aboard ship near winch.
