CASED CHINA INCIDENT WAR MEDAL W/RIBBON + ARMY PHOTO

Created by Imperial Edict No. 496 on July 27, 1939, amended by Edict No. 418 in 1944 and abolished by Governmment Ordinance No. 177 in 1946. 30mm bronze, die struck, swivel grip, obverse displaying chrysanthemum crest above the "Yata-No-Karsu" [two-legged red crow] between crossed Army & Navy flags w/rays of light behind, and reverse having a design of mountains, clouds, and waves in the Chinese classical style, representing northern China, central China and the Yellow Sea, and having the inscription "China Incident." The swivel grip has suspender decorated w/a design of club moss, and has attached bar inscribed w/the usual characters "war medal." Ribbon is 37mm watered silk, colors are 3mm blue/3mm light blue/7.5mm tan/3.5mm dark pink/2mm bright red center, then reverse colors, and has uniform hook to back. Comes in the dark brown pressboard case having silver embossed lettering to lid and dark blue velveteen form-fitted display area. Lot also comes w/original B/W photo of a Japanese 4th Imperial Guard regiment Private 1st Class in uniform, wearing the early style collar flashes and having edged weapon at side. Removed from photo album. Tiny bit of dark brown covering to rear of case missing, but overall GREAT display set. Condition: 8
