CASED 2600TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL W/RIBBON + ARMY PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
Imperial Edict No. 488 of 27 July 1940 established this medal, that is 30mm in diameter, made of aluminum-bronze alloy. The obverse shows a Chrysanthemum crest above a representation of the Sacred Double Bridge at the entrance of the Inner Grounds of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The background shows the Ancestral Shrine, the Imperial Sanctuary and the Imperial Palace. The reverse has the central vertical inscription "2600th Anniversary Commemorative medal" and below, horizontally, the characters for "Showa 15th year". Ribbon is 37mm wide, of watered silk, with a combination of the following colors: light violet with eight 1mm red stripes separated 2.5mm from each other in the center, and has uniform hook to back. The red lines, who symbolize "the eight parts of one universe", usually fade away rapidly and it is very difficult to find one of these ribbons nice condition, but this is a very, very nice example of both ribbon and medal! Case is dark violet pressboard w/silver inscription on lid & yellow velveteen form fitted interior. Comes w/original B/W photo of an Army 6th Regiment Private 1st Class in uniform, in which he wears the early style collar flashes. Removed from photo album. Condition: 8
