JAPANESE CASED ORDER OF THE SACRED TREASURE, 3RD CLASS, W/NECK RIBBON & ARMY LG PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
The Order of the Sacred Treasure, founded by Imperial Edict No. 1 of January 4, 1888, is the lowest ranking order and is both civil & military, and is bestowed on persons who have rendered distinguished service. This 55mm gold-plated order`s center polished white copper Yata Mirror is affixed to dark blue enameled ground w/in a beaded inner & double-raised outer ring, encircled by a super-imposed attached necklace of red paste jewels connected by red lines, on a cross of four sets of five white enameled rays. The plain reverse has the usual four characters "order of merit decoration" arranged in a square in the center, a small rivet head on each of the four arms, with NO mint mark on the lower edge. It has a gold-plated suspension loop in place. The 37mm wide watered pale green cravat has a 4mm yellow stripe 3mm from each edge, and is folded up into the case. The black lacquered hinged wooden case has gilt characters on the lid and a dull silver shield-shaped clasp to front. The lid has a padded violet satin lining and tiered shaped-molded violet velveteen display area. While the gold-plating on the order has some wear to it, overall it`s a beautiful example in near mint case. Some of the jewels display some light dings to them and the gold-plated adjustment bar on the ribbon displays green oxidation. This order comes w/a period B/W photo PC of Japanese Army Lieutenant-General Ushijima wearing such an order about his neck, corner crease to PC. Rare grouping. Condition: 7
