CASED HIROHITO ENTHRONEMENT MEDAL W/RIBBON, CASED RED CROSS MEDAL + PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
This lot contains: 1) a nice example of the Japanese WW2 Hirohito Enthronement Medal, created by Imperial Edict No. 188 on August 1, 1928 in preparation for the enthronement ceremonies. The silver 30mm in diameter medal has a gold chrysanthemum crest attached in center of the Imperial throne, w/a cloud at each side in Chinese classical style symbolizing good fortune, the characters "Banzai!" at the bottom, and blossoms of cherry & mandarin orange around the edge. On the reverse, the outline of the chrysanthemum crest has "Grand Enthronement Commemorative Medal" on a vertical banner, w/conventionalized clouds at each side, and "Showa 3rd year 11th month" below. Well struck, showing blue patina about the edge and golden patina to interior. The swivel grip suspension and ring attach to 36mm wide watered silk ribbon of five equal stripes of purple/white/red/yellow/green w/uniform hook to back. Comes in purple pressboard case w/gilt lettering on lid w/white fitted velveteen display area. The lid is loose, but the paper hinge is present and could be carefully repaired; 2) Red Cross Membership medal, silver [displaying some blue and light golden patina], grip has phonetic character on reverse, has proper watered ribbon with uniform hook to rear. Comes in a dark blue presswood case w/titled paper sticker to lid and violet satin display area; and 3) an original B/W photo of two Japanese Army soldiers standing in the archway of a building, removed from album.
