JAPANESE CASED ORDER OF THE RISING SUN, 8TH CLASS, W/RIBBON + ARMY PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
Japan`s first national decoration, the Rising Sun medal was established by the Council of State Decree of April 10, 1875, and was used as a general order of merit, awarded to Japanese and foreigners. This 8th Class silver Decoration of the White Pawlonia Leaves is 31mm x 33mm, w/the crest having 3, 5, and 3 flowers, and the reverse has the usual four seal characters in gilt on plain polished silver background, meaning "order of merit decoration". The leaves display good detail and the medal has very nice bluish patina, no mintmark to lug. The 38mm wide ribbon is white watered silk w/6mm red edges and has uniform hook to back. Medal is housed in a black bakelite hinged case, w/gilt lettering on the lid. The inside lid is purple padded satin and the display area is purple form-fitted velveteen. Comes w/original B/W photo of an Army soldier in winter uniform, leaning on his Samurai sword. Condition: 8
