CASED JAPANESE HIROHITO ENTHRONEMENT MEDAL W/RIBBON + ARMY PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
Instituted by Imperial Edict on August 1, 1928. Silver 30mm round medal which has the chrysanthemum crest in gilt [worn off] attached in the center of the Imperial throne, w/at each side a cloud in Chinese classical style symbolizing good fortune, the characters, "Banzai!" at the bottom, and blossums of cherry and mandarin orange around the edge. The reverse has, w/in the outline of the chrysanthemum crest, "Grand Enthronement Commemorative Medal" on a vertical banner, w/conventionalized clouds at each side, and "Showa 3rd year 11th month" below. Sharply struck example that exhibits very nice even blue patina. The suspension is a swivel grip and ring, and the 36mm watered silk ribbon is composed of five equal stripes of purple-white-red-yellow-green and has uniform hook to back. Comes in a purple pressboard case w/gilt inscription on lid, and form-fitted white velveteen viewing area. Pretty nice and scarce item that comes with an original B/W photo of an Army Superior Private in early-style uniform w/collar flashes [few creases]. Condition: 8
