CASED CHINA INCIDENT WAR MEDAL W/RIBBON + ARMY PHOTO
Click above image for full size photos below.
Created by Imperial Edict of July 27, 1939, amended in 1944 and abolished in 1946, this award was given to soldiers departing for China until the summer of 1945 and is very common. The medal is bronze, 30mm round, w/a swivel grip and has the same club moss suspender and bar as the previously issued war medal. The obverse shows the "yata-no-karasu" on crossed Army & Navy flags, w/rays of light behind and the chrysanthemum crest above. The reverse has a design of mountains, clouds and waves in the Chinese classical style, representing northern China, central China and the Yellow Sea. The inscription is "China Incident." The 37mm watered ribbon has 3mm blue (the sea and the Navy), 3mm light blue (the sky and the Air Force), 7.5mm tan (the yellow soil of China, for the Army), 3.5mm dark pink (the blood-stained soil of China) and 2mm bright red (blood loyalty) stripes w/uniform hook to back. Very nice example! The case is dark brown pressboard [that has scuffs and some small paper loss to exterior material] w/the name of the medal in silver characters on the lid. The display area inside is a dark blue form fitted felt. Comes w/an original B/W photo [removed from album page] of an Army Superior Private in uniform and wearing a duty armband, and there are pencilled characters to reverse side. Condition: 7
