ESTATE GROUPING OF DECORATED WW2/KOREAN WAR GENERAL - FRAMED MEDALS & MORE

Part of a vast estate grouping, once belonging to MG Harlan Nelson Hartness, famed WW2 and Korean War General. This lot includes: 1) Hartness` U.S. and foreign decorations and more, all framed, including General Staff Badge, Silver Star, Legion of Merit (gilted silver pendant - wrap brooch #ed 4401), Bronze Star w/Oak Leaf Cluster, French Legion of Honor, French Croix de Guerre w/Palms, French Croix de Guerre w/bronze star device, Czech Military Order of the White Lion w/Neck Ribbon, two examples of cloth BG stars [white embroidery into OD wool], two different set varieties of his BG metal stars - most in pairs - some sterling and/or hallmarked, and four of his dog tags w/chains. All comes in specially made display case with two clasps to front; 2) riker mount containing Hartness` personal MG wool desk flag [white embroidered stars into red wool base w/twist cord ties, few moth nips], B/W original photo of Hartness w/General of the Army Dwight Eisenhower, two sets of different variety metal BG stars Hartness wore [both sets marked sterling], and an enameled 4th Infantry Division pendant meant to be worn on a necklace, perhaps for his wife; 3) bag containing the issue cases for each of the decorations found in item #1 [except for one of the Croix de Guerres], his Hartness` American Defense and WW2 Victory medals, his brown leather watchband holder w/strap, his chain-link sword hanger, and an 80th Division patch [w/corner damage]; 4) boxed set of Hartness` full dress General`s shoulder boards, maker marked in France; 5) riker mount containing two B/W press release photos of MG Hartness w/ several other General Officers, to include BG Schwartz & LG Frank Milburn, circa 1952-53; 6) War Department manila envelope containing Hartness` promotion document to Major of Infantry, dated July 9, 1940, and hand-signed by Acting Secretary of State Louis Johnson and a MG who was the Adjutant General; 7) Hartness` personal maker marked medium sized M-1951 field jacket w/button in liner intact, having his textured MG stars affixed to each shoulder strap and 4th Infantry Division patch to left shoulder; 8) Hartness` personal M-1950 Ike Style jacket w/trousers, the jacket having his MG rank stars sewn to shoulder straps, gilt-finished "U.S." devices to collar, and 3 ribbon bars to left breast: Silver Star, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star w/oak leaf cluster device, few moth nips to lower left sleeve; the trousers have working Waldes zipper and are very nice; 9) a nice B/W original photo of Hartness wearing the uniform set in #8, as he is celebrating [with a cake having two star candles] his promotion to MG; 10) small snapshot folder containering 9 original B/W photos he took in Germany; 11) studio photo folder containing Hartness` picture as a Lieutenant in the 33rd Infantry; 12) 11 original B/W photos from 1952 & 1953 of two soldiers in the snow during training, foreign officers & more with details to back; 13) two original B/W photos taken in 1952 during "Operation Rosebush" with hand written details to back by Hartness; 14) 8 original B/W photos of General Hartness, his wife w/him, photo taken of review w/General Eisenhower on review stand, and more; 15) Press Kit for the 1952 4th Infantry Division Organization Day, including planned activities, history of the division and many large size B/W photos of the Officers in charge of the 4th Division [all identified to back], plus a B/W photo of Hartness wearing the field jacket described in #7 above, a copy of the official Division newspaper "Ivy Leaves" plus letter from the Stars and Stripes to Hartness; 16) Hartness` personal copy of "26th Infantry Division History" from WW2; 17) a manila packet containing Hartness` orders relieving him of his Ass`t Commandant duties at Ft. Leavenworth and his transfer to CG of the 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, as well as a few other odds and ends; and 18) Hartness` personal 3` x 4` satiny multi-piece BG and 3` x 5` U.S. doubled sided flags w/fringe, large dowel rods through buntings and pole tops. MG Hartness graduated from West Point in 1919, was promoted to BG in 1942, served with and commanded the 26th Infantry Division in 1945 [winning the Silver Star, Legion of Merit and 2 Bronze Star medals], later served as Assistant Commanding General of the 7th Division in Korea from 1946-1948, was named Commanding General of the 4th Division EUCOM in 1950, was promoted to MG in 1951 and retired in 1954. His foreign decorations include the Military Order of the White Lion from Czechoslovakia, and from France the Legion of Honor, Croix de Guerre w/Star and the Croix de Guerre w/Palms.
