ESTATE GROUPING OF DECORATED WW2/KOREAN WAR GENERAL - PERSONAL WEST POINT MEMORY BOOK

Part of a vast estate grouping, once belonging to MG Harlan Nelson Hartness, famed WW2 and Korean War General. This lot includes Hartness` personal Class of 1919 West Point Military Academy memory scrapbook, having stiff black covers w/silver embossed "A" to front and leather ties in place. Inside is the West Point motto, hand-written by Hartness, opening section of the names and addresses of his classmates; section on sporting activities at the Point in 1917-1919 with scores, team football photos from 1916-1919, fight songs, programs, and Hartness` Engineer`s Club pass dtd. 1919; and the rest of the album contains more than 150 original B/W photos taken at West Point of monuments, buildings, drills, training, reviews, his buddies in individual pics and MUCH more. The photos display some yellowing due the glue used to paste these into the album. A fascinating look at West Point in the early 19th Century from the viewpoint of a cadet and later officer. MG Hartness graduated from West Point in 1919, was promoted to BG in 1942, served with and commanded the 26th Infantry Division in 1945 [winning the Silver Star, Legion of Merit and 2 Bronze Star medals], later served as Assistant Commanding General of the 7th Division in Korea from 1946-1948, was named Commanding General of the 4th Division EUCOM in 1950, was promoted to MG in 1951 and retired in 1954. His foreign decorations include the Military Order of the White Lion from Czechoslovakia, and from France the Legion of Honor, Croix de Guerre w/Star and the Croix de Guerre w/Palms.
