JAPANESE CASED OFFICIAL MODEL NATIONAL FOUNDATION MERIT MEDAL W/RIBBON

The first and only decoration of the Independent State of Manchukuo, this award was established by the Edict of March 1, 1933 to those who had performed meritorious service in the establishment of the new nation. The medal is of black-lacquered bronze, 30mm in diameter, w/on the obverse two silvered characters "chien-kuo" in a wreath of two stalks of "kaoliang" w/the heads of grain silvered, tied w/a bow. The reverse has an inscription in three vertical lines right to left, "Great Manchukuo/National Foundation Merir Medal/Ta Tung 1st Year". The ribbon is 33mm watered silk in the national colors: 4.5mm blue/4.5mm red/15mm yellow/4.5mm white/4.5mm black. The presentation case is of black lacquer w/the name of the medal in large gilt characters. Shield-shaped clasp is missing to lock case. Inside lid is padded white satin and display area is white form-fitted velveteen. Ribbon just a wee bit soiled., still good display example. Condition: 8
